You want a clean looking garden but have no idea how to use a weed eater properly. I have put together a step by step guide and some additional tips so you you’ll be able to keep up with the Jones.
All following information might slightly vary depending on the type of weed eater that u are using. So it’s always helpful and recommended to read the manual. This will help you figure out the do’s and dont’s of your machine. You’ll also know all the possibilities and options of your weed eater so you’ll be able to achieve the professional result you’re looking for.
First of all make sure your weed whacker is ready to go. This might mean: get an extension cable, charge your spare batteries, or fill it up with gas. This all depends on the type of weed eater you have. Make sure your equipment is clean and ready to go. You might first have to adjust the length of the cutting thread, etc..
Always look out for your own safety! Due to it’s spinning speed, it might happen that your weed eater throws back rocks and other debris that can injure u. Use ear and eye protection and gloves. When using a gas based weed eater, ear protection is absolutely necessary because you want to protect yourself from permanent ear damage. When using a corded weed eater, always make sure you don’t clip the extension cord with the weed eater.
The next step before you start weeding is to clear the area of all hard objects like stones, logs, etc.. This is to prevent the cutting thread from breaking to fast.
Before you turn it on hold the weed whacker as close to the ground as possible and make sure you feel comfortable in this position. The angle you hold it in should be around 30 degrees. Don’t let the head touch the ground because this might damage the line and/or your weed whacker.
If you then turn it on you’ll be ready to go. Slowly move the head from left to right. The moving speed depends on the speed of your machine. If you aren’t having the results you would like try adapting your moving speed. If you then still have problems with results your weed eater delivers try adapting the length of your cord. If it’s to short the cutting surface will be smaller than normally.
When finished trimming always let the weed eater cool down first. The cooling down time depends on the machine and the intensity of the job. Afterwards clean the head gently with a brush. Never use water or other cleaning products because this might damage your machine. Store your weed eater in a dry place and preferably lock it up and out of the reach of children to avoid any accidents.
